  • Latest Project: Peach and Orange Velvet Vintage Cocktail Chairs

Now available for sale are these original vintage German cocktail chairs in a peach and orange colour-way. We have fully restored and upholstered these chairs and they are now ready to go to a new home. They would look great individually, or sitting together as a pair.

  • I recently teamed up with Danish retailer JYSK to do an Urban Jungle inspired photoshoot, using one of our restored vintage chairs and accessories from the JYSK homewares range. I have a local JYSK store, and shop there often and I love the quality and affordability of their pieces. JYSK is still owned by the original founder, Lars Larsen, who is known throughout Denmark as the country's leading merchant who always has 'a great offer'. The first store was opened in 1979 in Denmark, and following its success, today the JYSK Group comprises more than 2,400 stores in 48 countries worldwide.

Yellow Vintage Armchair Florrie and Bill

Being a monochrome interiors fan (and someone who is also partial to a few houseplants), the Urban Jungle theme was the perfect choice for me. I chose simple, monochrome accessories and added some natural wood details to complement the chair legs and tie the scheme together. A few selected plants and my trusty palm brought the look together. My personal take on this scheme is somewhat pared-back, not overly fussy but shows each piece off individually.

I picked our restored vintage armchair in yellow wool to style on this occasion as I thought this colour would look really fresh teamed with the green plants, monochrome accessories and bright white floors and walls.

For the side table I chose the BAKKEBJERG tray table - which is such great value at just £16.99. The top is painted MDF but it has solid pine legs (which you could paint a colour of your own choice if you wanted to match it to your own decor!). It's great quality and can be used in many rooms.

I love the simplicity and the ribbed detail of the ODDMUND flower pots which are available in both black and white. Perfect for smaller houseplants, and are just £2.49 each. They look great on their own, or styled with smaller vases such as the AUDUN vase, shown here in grey which is £1.79.

I couldn’t resist the little AMDAHL cactus ornament - such a perfect dark green colour and a great silouhette to peek out from underneath those trailing houseplants. It looks like an expensive piece, but costs only £2.49.

The TORKILD decorative box, which looks like a mini house is definitely the most versatile piece. I have used it in this shoot, placed on the floor with a plant inside. But it could also house some smaller succulents in pots, candles, other trinkets, or perhaps hooked onto the wall to use as a mini-shelf. It’s priced at £6.99, and you could buy 2 or 3 and place them together.

The BERRIT black 2-tier clay hanging planter is the perfect matt black with black cord to tie up and hang off a hook from the ceiling. I have styled it here with them joined together, but at home (and as our ceilings are quite low) I have actually split them into 2 separate hanging planters and put them in separate rooms. And a bargain at just £8.49! Yes, that is for the two!

The GODVIN glass and black metal picture frames are so special. They open out so you can pop in your own flowers, notes, pictures or keepsakes in them. I have styled it here with some fern from our garden. I imagine I will be using these for all sorts of things in the future. They are currently on offer priced at only £3.49 each and are also available in a brass colour.

The black HEROLD bamboo basket, £6.99 can be used for so many things, but here I have added it to my palm planter to add some interest and contrast against the white floor.

Last, but not least, I love these simple VILHEM hanging flower pots, which are ceramic and are attached to the wall by a small piece of cord, which are just £3.99 each. I added Aloe Vera to my pot, but it would look great with some hanging plants draping over the side, and maybe 2 or 3 together on a wall. They also come in dark grey too.

JYSK certainly offer some great value for money accessories which can easily, and affordably update your living space. They do have some UK stores, but most items can also be purchased online on their website at JYSK.CO.UK.

  • When I chose the wool fabric for this chair I was a bit worried the raspberry pink-red colour would be too bright! But, I thought, why not - let's take a risk and see how it turns out! When I saw the finished chair I knew it was the perfect choice!

    Retro Pink Wool Armchair

This colour looks great teamed with black and white accessories, bringing in a pop of colour to liven up the living space.

The wool is pure UK new wool, and is manufactured in the UK. It has a grey tone running through it, to give it a marl effect, so that the fabric is not a flat colour.

  • This week for our #fabfivequestionsfriday we chat to Jane Day - Stylist, Writer and Blogger at Tea With Ruby. I've admired Jane's Instagram feed and blog for some time now so it was great to find out more about the self confessed 'Interior Demon + Image Devourer'!

WHAT ARE THE TOP THREE THINGS YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB?

Firstly I work from home at my kitchen table which is brilliant.  Secondly it's flexible, not only do I not have to commute but the hours are on my terms, I can fit my daily life around building my brand. Thirdly the excitement of not knowing who I'm going to be working with next, I get to work with so many talented interesting independent businesses that all have similar ethics and drive that I do, you just can't beat it, I'm a lucky girl.

WHAT WAS YOUR LAST ONLINE PURCHASE AND WHERE WAS IT FROM?

I have just invested in handmade cupboard doors, tops and sides to fit an Ikea Besta sideboard carcass. I can't tell you how excited I am. It's going to look amazing, no handles just sleek and contemporary. It's being made from Scandinavian Ply and painted in a very pale cool grey but when the doors are open the ply will be in its raw tactile state. They are made by a new business here in the UK called Custom Fronts that I'm over the moon to be supporting and showcasing their attention to detail and aesthetics.

WHAT MAGAZINES DO YOU LOVE TO READ AND WHY?

I'm an interiors girl, even with Pinterest on the scene I enjoy nothing more than the new addition of Elle Decoration landing on my doormat.  Everything stops while I peruse the pages of this inspiring publication. I'm also slightly addicted to their bookazine issues Elle Decoration Country and the similar Modern Rustic by Country Living, I go back to these and read them over and over.

CAN YOU DESCRIBE YOUR OWN INTERIOR STYLE IN JUST ONE SENTENCE?

    Ever changing and homely.

WHAT MUSIC DO YOU LIKE LISTENING TO AND WHO IS YOUR FAVOURITE ARTIST?

I've always been into music and seen many a band in my time. Luckily my husband is a big music aficionado too as well as Ruby my daughter, she seems to have inherited the family gene, her first gig was Florence and the Machine, not bad when you are 10! I digress, what I listen to depends on my mood. If I need calm you'll probably find me listening to classical music such as the Bach Violin concertos or a superb album called One by Be which is derived from the vibrational communication of bees it's stunning, then there's Sigur Ros whom I adore. Other bands that are on my current play list are the likes of Wolf Alice, Austra, Goldfrapp, Bastille, David Bowie, The Cure - the list is never ending and diverse. My favourite band that are a stalwart of mine are Elbow - I'm just in love with Guy Garvey, we are going to see them play live in a forest in June which I just can't wait for!

  • This week for our #fabfivequestionsfriday we caught up with Ally Power, Founder of interior design firm Ally Interiors. As an interior designer, Ally, of course has a stunning home (pictures below) and also owns one of our restored vintage chairs and a selection of our Studio Collection cushions!

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START YOUR BUSINESS?

After having my daughter Myla, I decided to pursue my big ‘what if’ in life and set up as an interior designer. So I went back to college, did just that and Ally Interiors was born.

WHAT WAS YOUR LAST ONLINE PURCHASE AND WHERE WAS IT FROM?

Sorrento Marinella black and white tiles from Fired Earth. Sadly, they are not for my own home -  but I am so excited to see them in my clients’ new bathroom. I love the mix of modern and traditional, and who doesn’t love a black and white combo?

WHAT IS A SKILL YOU REALLY WANT TO LEARN?

I’ve just signed up to a terrarium making class. I’m a massive indoor plant fan, but lets just say, I don’t have the best reputation for keeping them alive. So I want to learn how to make beautiful, low maintenance terrariums that will withstand the test of time – whether it’s for me or a client.

CAN YOU DESCRIBE YOUR OWN INTERIOR STYLE IN JUST ONE SENTENCE?

I keep one foot grounded in the past and one stepping forward to the future, drawing from both modern and vintage styles

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE WAY TO EXPRESS CREATIVITY?

Creating unique and inspiring spaces. I love finding the detail that makes a room speak. And I believe in surrounding yourself with expressions of who you are to create a place you’re proud to call home.
