This week for our #fabfivequestionsfriday we chat to Olivia Aspinall - Founder of bespoke interior surfaces brand Olivia Aspinall Studio. Olivia offers fresh and exciting surface finishes for the interior design industry, and I love everything she produces. She's also local to us in Nottingham too! Read on to find out more...
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START YOUR BUSINESS?
I fell into my business slightly by accident. I studied Textile Design at university and specialised in printed textiles. For my degree show I created a series of hand printed wallpapers and a few experimental hard surfaces to accompany these. People picked up on the hard surfaces and seemed to love them, so from this reaction and also interior designers and architects wanting to specifying them for projects I had to quickly work out how to produce these surfaces for industry.
WHAT ARE THE TOP THREE THINGS YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB?
1) I love the freedom that comes with working for myself. 2) I love the variety of people I get to meet and work with. 3) Every project I work on is different and that makes every week challenging and exciting!
WHAT WOULD YOUR IDEAL STUDIO SPACE LOOK LIKE?
My ideal studio space would simply be somewhere large with lots of light. I am in the process of looking for a new studio and I need somewhere large enough to work on multiple projects at the same time and also somewhere with great light for colour matching.
WHO ARE YOUR FAVOURITE BLOGGERS AND WHY DO YOU FOLLOW THEM?
The only blog I really follow religiously is Sight Unseen. It's just full of beautiful products, new talent and colour.
WHAT IS A SKILL YOU REALLY WANT TO LEARN?
I really want to learn woodturning. I have a lathe that I bought sat in my studio, I just need to go take a class to get myself started!
